Automatic Pool and Spa Cover

Today, more and more pools and spas are installed with automatic safety covers built right into the pool.  Well they are not really ‘automatic’.  But they are mechanical (either hydraulic or electric). These covers may be operated with a key, a switch (that can be lockable) or keypad with access codes.  They allow homeowners to secure and close the pool and spa when desired.  Whether you are going on vacation and want to feel safe that the pool is closed or you want to limit friends and family, an automatic safety cover can help you control access to the pool.  Something to make note of: an automatic cover does not take the place of a ‘winter’ cover.  An automatic cover is used during the pool-use season (Spring/Summer/Fall).  A ‘winter’ cover is installed on top of the pool during the off-season, winter months.

Cover Colors

The automatic safety covers come in a variety of colors to choose from. However, in our experience, we have narrowed down the colors to a select few. They consist of primarily either light grey and darker gray. However, occassionally, another color such as blue or brown may be an appropriate choice.

Cover Switches

The automatic safety covers are operated most typically one of three types of switches:

  • A traditional switch (like a light switch) that is located in a lockable switch box
  • A key switch where you insert a key and turn to open/close
  • A keypad that requires a 4-digit code to allow user access

Pump for Automatic Cover

When the pool is not being used and rainfall is in the forecast, a small pump can be placed on the cover to remove water that accumulates on the cover.  A hose reel storage box can be placed near the pool to contain the hose and pump during pool usage.
